Zagreb's Christmas craze begins on December 1st and lasts until the 6th of January. Here are bits of advice that might help you experience Zagreb's Advent in a bit smoother and better way.
#1 Try avoiding weekends
We know that most people have free time on weekends but try to organise your time to visit Zagreb Christmas Market during the week. That way you will escape the enormous weekend crowds and explore this magical event in a relaxing stroll.
#2 Do your homework
Before heading to Croatia's capital be sure to check its rich program online. Go to Advent in Zagreb official website, scroll through content and mark few spots that you are most attracted to and then plan. The good thing is that most of the content is scattered around the city centre in a walking distance, so you will get to see a lot.
#3 Car driving? Are you crazy?
Wanna hit the Zagreb's centre with a car? We wouldn't recommend it. There are few city garages where you could leave your car, but they will probably be full around Christmas Market. The other option is parking around the centre itself, but it will be a miracle if you find a free spot, plus it can be quite expansive. The best option is to leave your car outside the centre and explore Zagreb's incredible Advent by foot. Zagreb also has a well-developed tram network that runs through the city centre, and it is a great alternative for those who came without transport.
While Zagreb is full of excellent hotels and hostels, they can be a bit expansive and overbooked in this time of the year. We recommend you take alternative options and book your accommodation in one of the numerous private apartments. We also recommend that you book your accommodation just outside of the city's centre and save some extra money. Don't worry about getting to the centre because, as we said, Zagreb has an excellent tram network.
#5 Broaden your horizons
Last, but not least we recommend that you make the most of your time in Zagreb by visiting less popular paces during the Christmas Market. Sure, all the fuss is in the city centre but why not visit the Museum of Contemporary Art or City's Zoo which also have an incredible Christmas program.
